Take notes, this will be on the test.
- What test?
The life test that ends well for you and your business.
I started my online presence with a small retail services business in 1996. Learning how to change my framed site with ftp transfers was not easy but I figured it out and changed my site regularly (customers like changing content). I then moved on to pay-per-click Google campaigns, strong online marketing promotions, email campaigns and jumped onto Forums to connect with other like-minded business owners to share information and advice. In my quest to expand my knowledge online I attended classes learning WordPress, Blogging, Search Engine Optimization and so much more.
Today, I am a WordPress Website Redesigner and Marketing Consultant to many small business owners. I help people get started in:
Having a Keyword Rich WordPress Website
Facebook Fan Page Set-up and Training
Twitter Set-up and Counsel
Google Places Design and Advice
eMail Marketing Campaign Design
Pay-per-click for Google and Facebook
… and lots of Article, Press Releases and Content Editing!

Here is a post I found on a Spa website several years ago. It really caught my attention and I admire this woman - putting herself “out there” so assertively. If I had a rather large spa and needed someone to not just run it, but make it flow smoothly - she would certainly get an interview.
How do you find a job? Are you bold enough to try something different and stand out?
Here’s what she wrote…..(and no, I do not know this person)
“Sharpest tool in the shed seeks to combine talent, expertise and proven track record with an innovative industry leader dedicated to an unparalleled customer service experience Perhaps you are seeking to enhance or recreate your training program to include the vital ingredients needed to empower, support and motivate your employees to produce. Perhaps you are seeking to provide your clients with the best possible experience so they in turn, sing your praises and refer other clients. Perhaps, you may be an entrepreneur or spa owner with a lot of cash flow but no clear cut direction. Heck, you may even be the VP of Spa Operations for a five star resort hotel who needs and ace in the hole but are surrounded by yes-men. In short, I can provide sales and customer service training programs (from creation to execution), or yearly marketing plans (from creation to execution). Prefer to work on a per project basis, but would consider working for the man for the right opportunity. Some highlights and background: A flawless complexion that would give an Ivory Girl a run for her money (makes a great advertisement, ” I look this good, you can too!? McGyver-like qualities that enable me to travel effortlessly, problem solve, self-entertain, read a map, pay a toll and apply lip liner all at the same time! Stamina. Healthy as a horse and take my vitamins (although I can toss back a whiskey with the best of them) Well read and well traveled. Able to appreciate, entertain and ingratiate myself equally with southern belles, foreign diplomats, soccer moms and metrosexuals. No Kids. (No PTA meetings, no teacher work days, no cookies to bake or Girl Scout meetings to attend) *Moonlights as a comedienne. Well, not really, but I have a healthy dose of self confidence and sense of humor so that I don’t take myself too seriously and am not pre-occupied with a sunspot, fine line or trying to get a doctor to marry me The last 5 books I read: Small Is The New Big by Seth Godin, The Psychology Of Persuasion by Robert Cialdini, Marketing Secrets of a Marketing Genius by: Jay Abraham, Wealth Attraction For Entrepreneurs by: Dan Kennedy If you are seeking a passionate, experienced trailblazer that possesses the elusive X factor to bring aboard to be a shining light in a sea of mediocrity, then look no further and don’t let the Bravado scare you; I will provide you with 10 years worth of happy testimonials from previous spa owners, spa directors and vendors.”
This should give you a bit of inspiration when you are looking for a job. Put yourself out there!! Wow! I am sure she is employed now!
I went to a meeting yesterday and discovered that the whole Kindle excitement is more than just a way to read thousands of books without buying a hard cover old style book. It is a cool, new way to get your content out to the masses.
Hmm, what you say? But I am doing that with my blog.
Well, the whole blogging thing is a tad cluttered. The endless amounts of tweaking and commenting on other peoples blogs for backlinks and keyword analysis and getting links is all so exhausting and tedious. But, it does work! It helps you get traffic to your site from people who would like the content and perhaps follow your blog and maybe buy an ebook from you.
Wait a minute. Did I just say buy an ebook?
So, why not just publish your ebook directly onto Amazon and see what happens?
Why not?
With a direct publish to Amazon’s platform and highly visited site, you will simply reach more interested people directly searching for your topic. Amazon reviews are very credible and people look in this area to see if they want to purchase your book for $8.99 or whatever you decide to sell it for online. And by selling online you could literally give it away in the beginning - say for .99 cents and then when you have enough awesome reviews - you can raise the price to $8.99 or so. And all this is instant. You don’t have to wait a long time for a price change, or to have additional book space in Barnes & Noble or wherever.
There are stories to tell, things to say.
I will post the link from the presenter I saw yesterday because I found him to be very genuine, not pushy and factual and helpful to get the word out about this type of “ebook” publishing - direct to Amazon. His angle? He will help you get your ebook format to be seen easily on the current three formats: Kindle, iPad and Nook. Evidently there are some formating issues that you must deal with yourself (Amazon is not there to assist you) and having his help is worth it to move forward faster in your quest to publish.
Me? Yes, I have an ebook in my head that I have been delayed in writing. Maybe it was because I did not know where to put the content. I know now. I will publish it to Amazon and (hopefully) receive royalty checks for years. (I am an optimist! :-)
I hope I have opened your thoughts to this new way of publishing your work directly onto Kindle. I think it is a neat wave we could all ride for a little while until something new emerges. Then we will readjust - that’s what we do online - we change as technology improves our devices.
But for now - let’s start writing our special stories fit for the growing Kindle audience.
Good luck and happy writing. (Happy profits too!)
